— Whether it’s your first OU football game or you’ve been a season ticket holder for 50 years, gamedays can be the most exciting, stressful and best memories you’ll make during your time at OU. And although no two home games are alike, I’ll give you a guided tour of a fairly typical gameday through the eyes of a college junior.

10:30 a.m.: I say this every day but I always intend to wake up a lot earlier than this in order to properly prepare for the day. Instead, I lounged around in bed, talked to my roommates about the previous night’s shenanigans and then proceeded to take a shower.

11:00 a.m.: Post shower, I’m starting to feel very excited about the first home game. I began to primp while talking on the phone and texting to see what was going on with all my friends. I look outside my window and pray the rain won’t start but my roommates announce that they’re leaving to go buy ponchos for the rain and champagne for pre-game mimosas.

12:00 p.m.: My friend LeighAnne rings the doorbell. Christa and Alli return with the champagne and orange juice and we mix our drinks, sipping them while we finish getting ready.

1:00 p.m.: My roommate Christa bought everyone face tattoos. I, unfortunately, can’t follow directions and ruined mine. I feel slightly left out because I don’t have a cute OU on my face.

2:00 p.m.: The four of us get in Alli’s car and head over to the stadium. Being as we have a parking permit, parking was a breeze. Unfortunately, Oklahoma weather is unpredictable and the rain has started pouring four hours earlier than it was supposed to.

2:30 p.m.: Our ponchos already drenched, we head to the Union for some shelter and Wendy’s because we couldn’t find my cousin’s tailgate due to the monsoon.

3:00 p.m.: After our meal, we decide to walk to Campus Corner to visit a friend of mine working at Gameday Authentic and the Lacrosse tailgate. After successfully finding the tent, we huddle in for shelter as we drink in our anticipation for the stomping OU is about to do.

4:00 p.m.: LeighAnne and I walk over to the fountain in front of the stadium to meet my cousin Linzie and friends to stand in line to get inside, stomping in puddles with our rain boots on the way.

5:00 p.m.: A freshman girl gets upset with us because we’re saving seats. “You can’t do that,” she says. A guy in the background chuckles and says, “Welcome to Oklahoma football.”

5:45 p.m.: Drenched with excitement (and rain), we watch the two teams warm up and scream for the Sooners.

6:30 p.m.: As the Sooners start to score, the rain in the background becomes less noticeable.

7:00 p.m.: My hands are getting wrinkly from the constant downpour, but our team continues to score.

9:00 p.m.: Although normally I would stay for the entire game, the Sooners have scored well into the 40s and Idaho State has yet to make any indication they would score by half time. So we leave the game with the other drenched fans and head home to watch the USC versus Ohio State game in the comfort of our warm living room.

Despite the rain, it’s a game I don’t think any of my friends will forget. We managed to have a good time and the Sooners were victorious once again.
